CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — After a lengthy wait, recreational marijuana sales are set to commence on Tuesday at multiple locations across Ohio, including Sunnyside Dispensary on North Bridge Street in Chillicothe.

The launch of recreational sales follows the passage of Issue 2 by Ohio voters, which legalized marijuana use in the Buckeye State.

Sunnyside Dispensary in Chillicothe confirmed to the Guardian that they will begin selling recreational marijuana on Tuesday, August 6.

According to a study conducted by Ohio State University, the state could see tax revenue ranging from $276 million to $403 million by the fifth year after legalization. This significant financial boost underscores the economic potential of the new market.

Only approved vendors, many of which initially operated as medical-only dispensaries, are permitted to sell recreational marijuana. Sunnyside is among those dispensaries that have received the necessary approval to expand their offerings to include recreational sales.

As Ohio embarks on this new chapter, the state joins a growing list of U.S. states that have embraced the legalization of recreational marijuana, reflecting shifting attitudes and the potential for substantial economic benefits.
