CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A parole officer was run over and dragged by a car in Chillicothe on Wednesday while attempting to apprehend a parolee with outstanding warrants.
According to the Chillicothe Police Department, officers and deputies from the sheriff’s office were dispatched to 815 Adams Street to assist the Adult Parole Authority in capturing Dakota Jones, who was wanted for parole violations. Upon arrival, they spoke with the parole officer, who recounted the harrowing incident.
The parole officer stated that just before law enforcement arrived, he attempted to arrest Jones, who was sitting in a black Nissan on Adams Avenue. As the officer reached into the vehicle to grab Jones’ arm, Jones suddenly accelerated, dragging the officer nearly 100 yards before escaping.
The parole officer was transported to Adena Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident. Authorities have stated that an additional warrant will be issued for Jones’s arrest as the search for him continues.
