CHILLICICOTHE, Ohio – Local law enforcement has successfully identified a juvenile female victim involved in a disturbing case of online sextortion. The victim, a 13-year-old girl, was allegedly targeted by a male adult who posed as a juvenile on the popular social media platform Snapchat.
The investigation began when Logansport, Indiana detectives contacted the Chillicothe Police Department seeking assistance in identifying a juvenile who had been lured into sharing explicit photos. The detective told local investigators they had received reports of a male adult using the “quick adds” feature on Snapchat to target young girls.
After receiving the photos from a detective, Chillicothe police investigators were able to identify the victim with the help of a local school resource officer.
The victim’s phone was seized and examined, but no Snapchat application was found.
The case is ongoing as law enforcement continues to investigate the identity of the male suspect. The victim is expected to undergo a forensic interview at the Child Protection Center.
