EAST AURORA, New York – Fisher-Price, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced the recall of more than 2 million Snuga Infant Swings following reports of five infant deaths linked to the product. The recall was issued on October 10, 2024, citing suffocation risks if the swing is used improperly, such as for sleep or with added bedding materials.
Product Details and Hazard Warning
The recall affects all models of Fisher-Price’s Snuga Swings, a popular infant swing featuring both front-to-back and side-to-side motions. The swings have been sold in the United States, Canada, and Mexico since 2010, with approximately 2.1 million units sold in the U.S. alone. The swings were available at major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, Toys R Us, and Target, with a retail price of around $160.
The key danger stems from the headrest and body support insert included with the swing. If used for sleep or if bedding materials are added, these components can increase the risk of suffocation. The CPSC and Fisher-Price stress that the swing should never be used for sleep and advise parents to immediately remove the headrest and body support insert by cutting the tether. The swing is only safe for use during awake-time activities when these inserts have been removed.
Five Infant Deaths Reported
Between 2012 and 2022, five tragic deaths occurred involving infants aged 1 to 3 months who were left unrestrained in the swing, often with added bedding materials. These incidents highlight the risks associated with using inclined seating products like swings for infant sleep. In response, the CPSC and Fisher-Price are urging parents and caregivers to follow safe sleep guidelines and avoid leaving infants in the product unsupervised, unrestrained, or with bedding material.
The Safe Sleep for Babies Act passed in 2022 already bans inclined sleepers for infants, and this recall further emphasizes the importance of ensuring infants sleep only on flat, firm surfaces such as cribs or bassinets.
Remedy and Refund Information
As part of the recall, Fisher-Price is offering a $25 refund to consumers who follow the company’s instructions to remove and destroy the headrest and body support insert. Detailed instructions are available on the Fisher-Price website at service.mattel.com.
The company recommends that consumers immediately stop using the swing for sleep purposes and ensure all inserts are removed before using it for any other activity. Additional safety information on infant sleep practices can be found at CPSC.gov.

Continuing Commitment to Safe Infant Sleep Practices
The CPSC continues to remind parents and caregivers to always place infants on their backs for sleep, on firm and flat surfaces, free of any bedding or soft objects. Inclined products like swings, rockers, or soothers should never be used for sleep, and any infant that falls asleep in one of these devices should be promptly moved to a safe sleep environment.
The Snuga Swing recall serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by inclined sleep surfaces. Parents are urged to review all infant products to ensure compliance with current safety standards and guidelines to prevent further tragedies.
