CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — New details have emerged in the investigation of the man found dead from a gunshot wound in his home on Rozelle Creek Road on October 20, 2024. According to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, authorities are continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the incident as they await further forensic results.
Initial reports revealed the man was discovered in his kitchen with a severe head wound, and a sawed-off .410 shotgun was found near his body. Investigators now confirm that while the gun was positioned near the victim’s left leg, no one else was located inside the home at the time of the discovery. The back doors of the residence were found unlocked, but there were no signs of forced entry.
Neighbors told deputies they had heard a gunshot between 1:00 and 2:00 a.m. on the day of the incident but were not alarmed due to previous disturbances at the property. Investigators have yet to determine if the shot heard by neighbors was connected to the fatal wound.
Authorities are working closely with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office as they await the results of the autopsy, which they hope will shed more light on the cause and timeline of death. While some items were collected from the scene, the sheriff’s office has not disclosed further details on what might have led to the incident.
This remains an open investigation, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Ross County Sheriff’s Office. More updates are expected as forensic results and further witness statements are processed.
