CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A 28-year-old man, Douglas Austin Thompson, was apprehended in the early hours of October 25, 2024, following a coordinated chase involving multiple officers, a drone, and extensive tracking across several city blocks. Thompson was wanted for a probation violation warrant and obstruction of justice, initially evaded officers who attempted to locate him at his last known address in Sherman Park.
According to law enforcement reports, officers first attempted contact with Thompson earlier in the night, but he fled the scene. Due to the active felony warrant, law enforcement deployed a department drone (UAS) to monitor the area. The drone captured footage of a man matching Thompson’s description, wearing a backpack and hood, moving through neighborhoods and various backyards near King Street, S Watt Street, and the vicinity of Kingdom Hearts on Watt Street.
As officers converged, Thompson continued moving southbound, evading them through alleys, parking lots, and residential yards. One officer stationed nearby observed Thompson sprinting along Eastern Avenue and initiated a foot pursuit. Despite commands to stop, Thompson continued to flee, ultimately attempting to hide near a building at 700 Eastern Avenue.
After a brief chase, Thompson was safely apprehended and placed under arrest for obstructing justice. He was subsequently transported to the Ross County Jail, where he was served his warrant and informed of a scheduled court appearance at the Chillicothe Municipal Court later that morning.
