DAYTON, Ohio — Shriners Children’s Ohio received a historic $11.5 million donation on Tuesday, marking the largest gift in its nearly 60-year history. The transformative donation comes from the estate of Robert John Jursich and his wife, Marthe, celebrated philanthropists whose generosity will forever be commemorated with the dedication of the Jursich Care Center, a newly named inpatient acute care unit within the hospital.
This donation not only represents a milestone for Shriners Children’s Ohio but is also among the largest contributions ever received by the 102-year-old Shriners Children’s healthcare system, which has provided medical care for nearly 1.6 million children worldwide.
Bethany Deines, senior director of philanthropy at Shriners Children’s Ohio, emphasized the deep connection the Jursich family felt to the hospital’s mission, noting that Robert Jursich’s legacy will have a profound impact on the quality and reach of care provided at the center.
“Shriners Children’s Ohio is deeply grateful for Mr. and Mrs. Jursich’s incredible generosity. Because of their support, the Jursich Care Center is a place where life-changing medical care is provided every day,” Deines said. “Our skilled and compassionate medical team works tirelessly to deliver care tailored to the specific needs of each child. From the moment they enter, our patients and their families are welcomed into an environment that fosters healing, hope, and trust. The Jursich family’s legacy will be a source of comfort and support for children and families in our care.”
The Jursich Care Center will play a pivotal role in the hospital’s continued mission, ensuring that the Shriners Children’s legacy of specialized pediatric care endures for decades to come.
