JACKSON COUNTY, Ohio — A single-vehicle crash on U.S. Route 35 claimed the life of a 49-year-old Illinois man on Thursday morning, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The incident occurred near milepost 13 around 11:35 a.m.
Erik Edgardo, of Wheeling, Illinois, was driving a 2016 International box truck eastbound on U.S. 35 when he lost control while negotiating a curve near the entrance ramp from Broadway Street. The vehicle overturned and slid off the right side of the roadway. Edgardo was partially ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger, 43-year-old Enrique Romulo of Palatine, Illinois, was injured in the crash. Romulo was initially transported to Holzer Medical Center and later flown to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, for further treatment.
The Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Jackson County Fire and EMS, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and Durham’s Wrecker Service. Traffic on U.S. 35 was restricted to one lane for about two and a half hours during the investigation and recovery operations. The crash remains under investigation.
