VINTON COUNTY, Ohio — Ohio’s smallest populated county surprisingly saw two contest races during a year when usually some seats remains vacant.
Two people were vying for Court of Common Pleas: Incumbent James Payne, who was appointed by the Governor of Ohio recently to fill an unexpired term was facing longterm county resident Laina Rogers. Rogers, a Democrat is widely known across the county, whereas Payne, who was previously county prosecutor hails from Scioto County and moved to the area to fill a vacancy several years ago.
In addition the judicial race, a county commission race between Jeff Fee and Jeff Harper III was being closely watched.
