In a historic election, Donald J. Trump beat Vice President Kamala Harris to become the 47th president of the United States. Trump will return to the Oval Office four years after his defeat to President Joe Biden.

This election also witnessed the second loss for a female vice president on the Democratic ticket, as Kamala Harris was unable to secure a victory. Her defeat makes this the second time in just eight years that a woman has been nominated by the Democratic Party, only to narrowly miss reaching the presidency. Harris’s supporters campaigned on a platform promoting social equity and economic inclusiveness, but it ultimately did not translate into the winning numbers her party hoped to achieve.

Trump is the first former president in over 100 years to win a second term following a reelection defeat.
