MEDINA, Ohio — A dramatic police pursuit on Veterans Day ended in tragedy as officers shot and killed a man accused of abducting his young daughter. According to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the incident began around 8 p.m. when Brunswick police officers located a vehicle linked to an Amber Alert issued for a 7-year-old girl reportedly abducted by her non-custodial father, Charles Ryan Alexander.
The alert triggered an extensive search and eventually led officers to the suspect’s vehicle heading southbound on I-71. When law enforcement attempted to intercept Alexander, a high-speed chase ensued. During the pursuit, officers deployed stop sticks in an effort to disable the vehicle, but Alexander continued driving onto Route 18 in Medina Township, according to officials.
The chase came to a tense conclusion in the parking lot of a local business, where Alexander stopped the car, leading to an armed standoff. During the exchange, authorities say Alexander was fatally shot. His daughter, who had been with him in the vehicle, was safely rescued and taken into police protection.
The Medina County Sheriff’s Office, in a public statement, confirmed that no officers were injured during the incident, which is still under investigation.
