CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A five-year-old boy was found alone in a dumpster in the 600 block of Sherman Park on Thursday afternoon, prompting new charges against his mother, Shyanne Tyler, who is already facing legal troubles related to child endangerment. According to the police report, officers were dispatched around 4:54 p.m. after receiving reports of an unsupervised child allegedly left alone in the area for an extended period. Upon arrival, officers located the boy, whom they listed as five years old, inside the dumpster and unable to get out on his own.
The report states that two bystanders claimed to have observed the boy in the dumpster for two to three hours. They initially noticed multiple children in the dumpster, but officers reported seeing only the five-year-old boy when they arrived. The child, visibly upset, allegedly expressed concern that he would “be in trouble” for being outside.
After removing the boy from the dumpster, officers escorted him to his nearby apartment, where they made contact with Tyler. According to the police report, Tyler initially scolded her son and disputed the length of time he was outside, claiming he had recently returned home from school. She further asserted that she was unaware of his whereabouts and believed he had not been unsupervised for long.
Child Protective Services (CPS) was contacted after the incident. CPS noted that Tyler already has an open case with them, and, according to Chillicothe Municipal Court records, she also faces an active criminal case related to another child endangerment incident that allegedly took place at the end of October. CPS arranged for the child and his siblings to stay overnight with their grandmother as a safety precaution.
Tyler was issued a new summons for child endangerment and is scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on November 22nd.
