SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — A Wheelersburg man is in custody following a bold daylight burglary that occurred on Wednesday, November 27, 2024. According to Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman, deputies responded to a 911 call at 3:17 p.m. reporting that a male suspect had broken into a home. The caller stated her son was inside attempting to stop the intruder.

Deputies and detectives arrived on the scene within minutes. Investigators determined that the suspect had stolen items from the residence before fleeing on foot. A rapid search of the area led detectives to locate and detain the suspect, who had hidden the stolen items behind a nearby apartment complex.

Sheriff Thoroughman credited the swift response and arrest to the efforts of Detective Sgt. Jodi Conkel, Detective John Cart, and Deputies Craig Ashley and Alicia Underwood.

The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Jazmine Allen of Wheelersburg, has been charged with second-degree felony burglary and first-degree misdemeanor theft. He is being held on a $76,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, December 2, 2024.

Further investigation revealed that Allen is connected to a series of vehicle break-ins and attempted break-ins in the Kinker Drive and Dogwood Ridge areas. Sheriff Thoroughman is urging any residents who believe they may have been victimized to contact the sheriff’s office to file a report.

“This is still an ongoing investigation,” Sheriff Thoroughman said, noting that additional charges are expected to be presented to the Scioto County Grand Jury at a later date.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is encouraged to contact Detective Sgt. Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091.
