WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will transition to two modern and secure sign-in options—Login.gov and ID.me—for accessing its online services. The change, set to take effect in 2025, will replace existing sign-in methods for My HealtheVet and DS Logon.

After January 31, 2025, Veterans, beneficiaries, and caregivers will no longer be able to use My HealtheVet usernames and passwords. Similarly, access via DS Logon credentials will end on September 30, 2025. Moving forward, users will need a verified Login.gov or ID.me account to access VA.gov, the VA: Health and Benefits mobile app, and other VA online services.

The VA is providing resources to assist with the transition. Users can begin the process now by visiting www.va.gov/sign-in-changes to create a verified account. Setting up a Login.gov or ID.me account takes about 10 minutes, and Veterans who do not transition by the deadlines can still regain access to their benefits and services after creating an account.

This update affects only account-based online services. Many VA webpages, such as those offering general information, forms, or claim instructions, will remain accessible without signing in.

Veterans and caregivers are encouraged to review the changes and prepare ahead of the deadlines to ensure continued access to VA services. For more information, visit the VA’s website.
