COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has declared a state of emergency for Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Lake counties in response to severe lake-effect snow and worsening weather conditions expected this week.

“In addition to the support the state has already provided, we anticipate that more state resources will be necessary as the week progresses,” said Governor DeWine. “This proclamation readies our state agencies to assist the impacted counties without delay.”

The declaration follows significant snowfall and hazardous conditions, including snow squalls and wind gusts of more than 40 mph. Local crews have been supplemented by staff and equipment from nearby counties with less snowfall, with efforts focused on clearing major roadways and access to critical facilities such as hospitals.

The Ohio Department of Transportation and Ohio State Highway Patrol are continuing their efforts, while the Ohio Emergency Management Agency remains engaged with impacted counties to address ongoing needs.
