SWANTON, Ohio — Residents in Ohio may hear or see F-16 fighter jets soaring through the skies this week as the Ohio Air National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing conducts nighttime training flights. Scheduled from Monday, Dec. 9, through Thursday, Dec. 12, the flights will include takeoffs, landings, and even the use of flares, lasting until approximately 10:00 PM each evening, weather permitting.

While the 180th Fighter Wing typically trains during daylight hours, nighttime operations ensure F-16 pilots and maintenance crews maintain readiness for various missions. Residents in the Hillsboro area may also notice fighter jets operating near a Civil Air Patrol aircraft simulating a “Track of Interest” (TOI)—a role-playing exercise designed to identify and respond to potential aerial threats this evening.

The training exercise will evaluate response and coordination procedures critical to mission success. The 180th Fighter Wing expressed appreciation for the community’s ongoing support as it works to maintain readiness and mission preparedness. Residents should expect increased air activity during the training period.
