CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Fire Captain Micah Reese has parted ways with the City of Circleville following a disciplinary issue that arose from his handling of a medical emergency call earlier this year. Initially terminated on March 14, Reese’s dismissal was later modified after an appeal process. The details of the alleged mishandling was not released.

An investigation into Reese’s conduct led to his termination, but he appealed under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement with the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). The appeal was heard on September 11, where both parties argued their cases.
The independent arbitrator’s decision, delivered on November 7, acknowledged the need for discipline but found the termination to be too harsh, instead imposing a three-day suspension.
Following this ruling, the City of Circleville, led by Mayor Michelle L. Blanton, convened an emergency City Council meeting on December 10. The council voted to authorize a settlement negotiation, resulting in an agreement where Reese would receive over $100,000.
City officials have promised to release more details once the settlement is fully executed. In a statement released, the city said its commitment to providing exemplary service.
“The City of Circleville remains committed to providing the highest level of professional service to our residents,” the statement read. “We will continue to hold all employees, particularly those in leadership positions, to the highest standards of conduct to maintain trust and confidence in our Fire Department.”
