CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The inmate involved in the tragic death of a Ross County corrections officer has been identified as Rashawn Cannon. According to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC), Cannon was serving time for felonious assault and weapons under disability charges. His expected release date was August of 2030.

The ODRC confirmed that Correction Officer Andrew Lansing died following an assault by Cannon at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution. The incident occurred around 7:15 a.m. on Christmas morning.

In response to this tragic event, Governor DeWine has ordered flags to be lowered in honor of Officer Lansing’s service and sacrifice.
