CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Police are investigating a potential shooting incident after discovering six .45-caliber cartridge cases in the rear parking lot of a commercial area on East Main Street. The discovery was made on January 5, during a routine follow-up on an unrelated complaint.
The cartridge cases were found near the back door of a business located at 286 E Main Street. Officers photographed and documented the evidence before submitting it for analysis. The items are being treated as part of an ongoing investigation.
Details of the Discovery
Authorities canvassed the area between 272 and 286 E Main Street, checking for security cameras that might provide insight into the incident. While on-site, police spoke with a resident of Ewing Street, who reported hearing four to five gunshots around 12:30 a.m. that morning. However, the resident did not witness any activity, as their security camera was obstructed by a parked camper.
A passerby mentioned seeing the cartridge cases in the area since New Year’s Day but was unable to provide further details. Officers also reached out to local businesses requesting any relevant security footage.
Next Steps
The investigation remains active as officers work to collect additional evidence and analyze surveillance footage from nearby establishments. Authorities are also encouraging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
