COLUMBUS, Ohio — With the highly anticipated College Football Playoff National Championship game just days away, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Indiana Governor Mike Braun have placed a friendly wager on the outcome of the matchup between the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
“As two powerhouse collegiate football teams battle it out on the gridiron in the College Football Playoff National Championship, I am confident that The Ohio State Buckeyes will defeat Notre Dame and claim the national title,” Governor DeWine said in a statement. “I am excited to engage in this friendly wager with Governor Braun, showcasing some of the best homemade buckeyes.”
For his part of the bet, Governor DeWine is putting up Ohio’s iconic buckeye candies, sourced from Marsha’s Homemade Buckeyes in Perrysburg, a small business known statewide for the signature chocolate-and-peanut-butter treat.
Governor Braun has matched the wager with a selection of Indiana-made sweets, including products from South Bend Chocolate Company, a popular confectioner based in South Bend, Indiana—home to Notre Dame.
“I’m excited to join Governor Mike DeWine of Ohio in this friendly wager,” said Governor Braun. “The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have had an incredible run in this year’s College Football Playoffs, and I have no doubt they’re ready to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes and claim the National Championship.”
The showdown between Ohio State and Notre Dame is scheduled for January 20 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Fans can catch the action live on ESPN, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
As the two governors square off in good-natured rivalry, both Ohio and Indiana residents will be cheering for their teams to bring home the title—and a few extra bragging rights to go with it.
