WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump has unveiled a proposal for the United States to assume ownership of the Gaza Strip, aiming to transform the region into a “Riviera of the Middle East.” This plan includes the resettlement of Gaza’s Palestinian population to neighboring countries.
In a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 4, 2025, President Trump stated, “We are committed to buying and owning Gaza.”
The proposal suggests relocating a significant portion of Gaza’s population to countries such as Egypt and Jordan. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz has ordered the army to prepare plans for Palestinians who wish to leave the enclave.
The plan has faced international criticism. United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres warned against actions that could be perceived as ethnic cleansing.
European nations, including Spain and Ireland, have rejected the idea of forcibly relocating Palestinians, emphasizing the need for a two-state solution.
While the U.S. has not yet introduced formal legislation on this matter, the proposal has sparked widespread debate regarding its feasibility and potential humanitarian impact.
