COLUMBUS, Ohio — Mark your calendars for a profound commemoration of Ohio’s past and its enduring legacy as the Ohio History Connection hosts the annual Statehood Day celebration at the Ohio Statehouse on Wednesday, March 5.
The event, free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., will take place in the Statehouse Atrium and Rotunda, with a formal program scheduled between 10:15 a.m. and noon. While there is no admission fee, potential attendees are encouraged to register at ohiohistory.org/statehood to ensure a spot.
This year’s Statehood Day not only marks Ohio’s entrance into the Union but also the bicentennial of the Ohio & Erie Canal, emphasizing Ohio’s pivotal role in connecting diverse regions to the broader world historically and today.
Statehood Day traditionally offers a prime opportunity to spotlight the significance of Ohio’s history and the broader impacts of historical preservation across the Buckeye State. This year’s celebration will feature a panel discussion, exhibitions from contributing organizations statewide, and guided tours of the iconic Statehouse.
