CHILLICOTHE, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is moving forward with plans to replace a bridge on State Route 180 in Ross County and is asking for public feedback on the project. The bridge, located between Robinson Road and Sulfur Spring Road in Green Township, is set for replacement as part of efforts to improve roadway infrastructure in the area.

The project will require acquiring just under an acre of land, primarily along wooded areas, farmland, and residential lawns. No homes or businesses will be affected by the construction.

During the project, S.R. 180 will be closed, and drivers will be detoured via S.R. 159 and S.R. 56 before reconnecting to S.R. 180. The detour will span approximately 16.5 miles.

The bridge replacement is being funded with a mix of federal and state money, with 80 percent coming from federal sources and the remaining 20 percent from the state. The environmental review process is expected to be completed by July 2025, and the contract for the project is set to be awarded in May 2026.

ODOT is accepting public comments on the project through March 29, 2025. Those interested in sharing their thoughts can reach out to Brandon Beck, Environmental Supervisor for ODOT District 9, by mail at 650 Eastern Avenue, Chillicothe, Ohio 45601, or via email at [email protected].

This project falls under federal environmental guidelines, with ODOT overseeing the review and approval process under an agreement with the Federal Highway Administration.
