COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has joined forces with attorneys general from 15 other states in advocating for the Nationwide Consumer and Fuel Retailer Choice Act of 2025. This proposed legislation would allow for the year-round sale of E15 gasoline, which consists of 15% ethanol and 85% gasoline, across all states.

The group’s support for the bill was expressed in a letter to Congress, where they outlined the economic and strategic benefits of making E15 available throughout the year. Yost highlighted the advantages for Ohio, saying, “Ohio’s motorists, farmers and energy providers all stand to gain from this proposal. It’s good for our state’s economy, and it’s a key step toward energy independence for our country.”

Currently, a Clean Air Act regulation permits the sale of E10 gasoline year-round but restricts E15 to the non-summer months. This regulation poses logistical challenges for oil producers who must accommodate two different fuel types seasonally.

The letter from the attorneys general argued that year-round access to E15 would create operational certainty for energy producers, enabling better planning and growth. It also pointed out that vehicles manufactured after 2001 can use E15 without issues, and that E15 has a similar environmental impact as E10 but is cheaper, providing cost savings to consumers.

The attorneys general from states including Alabama, Alaska, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, and West Virginia also supported the legislation, indicating widespread support for this change in energy policy.

This endorsement for expanded access to E15 gasoline marks a significant effort to adjust national energy policies to promote more sustainable and economically beneficial fuel usage across the United States.
