CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department nearly two months after the fact has released their report on a shooting incident that occurred on January 31, in Yoctangee Park near Enderlin Circle.

At approximately 11:47 PM, officers responded to reports of gunfire near the floodwall and pump house. Upon arrival, they encountered a 33-year-old male who reported that three juvenile males had discharged a firearm at him.

According to the police report, the male stated that he had confronted the juveniles after observing them knocking over trash cans near his residence on North Mulberry Street. He followed them to the floodwall, where one of the juveniles allegedly fired a black pistol at him multiple times.

Officers, among others, responded to the scene. During the investigation, a subsequent shot was heard, according to the police report.

Responding officers reportedly established a perimeter and, with assistance from the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, located three juvenile suspects near the dog park. K9 Rin was deployed and successfully located a black Taurus PT11 pistol in a wooded area near the bike path. The firearm contained 15 out of 17 rounds of 9mm ammunition, with one round in the chamber.

The three juvenile suspects, all aged 17, were detained and interviewed at the Law Enforcement Complex. They face charges including:

  • Felonious Assault (2903.11)
  • Discharging Firearms (549.12)
  • Carrying Concealed Weapons (2923.12)
  • Minors Curfew Hours (531.02)

Additionally, one juvenile was also charged with Carrying Concealed weapons.

The 33-year-old male’s vehicle was towed to the police department’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for processing after he reported that a round had ricocheted off it.

Officers, the report said, also interviewed several witnesses and individuals associated with the incident, including a female companion of the 33-year-old male who reported observing the juveniles throwing trash cans at their residence.

The investigation is ongoing.
