SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — A Portsmouth man died Wednesday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle and striking a guardrail on State Route 73, authorities said.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Portsmouth Post received a call at 2:42 p.m. reporting a motorcycle injury crash near mile post 14 in Scioto County, according to a statement from the patrol.
Joshua Lee Maxie, 48, was riding a 2018 Harley-Davidson westbound when he veered off the left side of the roadway and collided with the guardrail, troopers said. Maxie was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, where he later died from his injuries.
Emergency responders from the Union Township Fire Department, Union Township EMS, and Rush Township Fire Department assisted at the scene, the highway patrol said.
As weather warms up for the season, troopers would like to remind drivers to be on the lookout for motorcyclists and bicyclists, as well as pedestrians and those who run on the side of the road. In addition, motorcyclists and bicyclists are encouraged to wear reflective gear and helmets, and obey all traffic laws.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
