CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Alzheimer’s Association is calling on Chillicothe residents to join the 2025 Walk to End Alzheimer’s, set for Oct. 18 at Yoctangee Park, 19 Enderlin Circle, marking a new location for the community’s fight against the disease. The event is one of several walks planned across the Greater Cincinnati region this fall, including a walk in Portsmouth on Sept. 27 at Shawnee State University.

“Now is the time for hope,” said Annemarie Barnett, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Cincinnati and Miami Valley chapters. “With new treatments emerging, every step we take moves us closer to a cure and a world without Alzheimer’s and dementia.”

The Chillicothe walk aims to unite residents in raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. The Portsmouth event, held at 940 Second St., will similarly rally southern Ohioans to honor those affected by the disease, which impacts 236,200 Ohioans aged 65 and older, according to the Alzheimer’s Association’s 2024 Facts and Figures.

Other regional walks include Southeast Indiana on Sept. 6 at Liberty Park in Batesville, Butler and Warren Counties on Sept. 13 at Corwin Nixon Park in Mason, and Cincinnati Tri-State on Oct. 4 at Sawyer Point Park.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, held in over 600 communities nationwide, is the world’s largest event supporting Alzheimer’s initiatives. Funds raised directly benefit the Alzheimer’s Association’s care, support, and research programs, critical in a state where 414,000 caregivers provide 624 million hours of unpaid care annually, valued at $11.4 billion.
