MASON, Ohio — Kings Island amusement park opened for the 2025 season on April 18, unveiling new food offerings, updated attractions, and a revamped roller coaster during its Passholder Preview Day.
The Backlot Stunt Coaster, marking its 20th anniversary, was rethemed as Queen City Stunt Coaster, replacing its Hollywood motif with Cincinnati-inspired elements, including signage featuring landmarks like Union Terminal. The park kept the overhaul under wraps until announcing it on social media the morning of the preview day.
The iconic Beast roller coaster underwent significant refurbishment, with over 20% of its track replaced in collaboration with the Gravity Group. Other rides receiving updates include the Grand Carousel, which got a new roof and sign, and Shake Rattle and Roll, repainted for its 50th anniversary.
The Monster, a ride dating back to 1968 at the park’s predecessor, Coney Island, was closed on opening day due to a delayed part delivery. Park officials expect the ride to reopen in July after reassembly. Fences near the Eiffel Tower mark the construction site of a new festival center, set to complement the Grand Carousel’s décor and host events like the Food and Wine Festival.
Additional renovations include a redesigned blue ice cream stand in Planet Snoopy. On May 24, Soak City water park will open with new attractions, including Splash River Junction, a children’s play area, and RiverRacers, Ohio’s first dual-racing water coaster.
Kings Island, located at 6300 Kings Island Drive, operates select days through May 14, then daily through Labor Day. More information is available at visitkingsisland.com.
