McDERMOTT, Ohio — A head-on collision on State Route 73 near milepost 19 in Rush Township, Scioto County, left one person dead and three others seriously injured Thursday evening, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 6:10 p.m. when Chandra M. Darling, 48, Garrison, Kentucky, was driving eastbound, crossed the center line and struck a westbound vehicle driven by Mary A. Talbert, 36, of McDermott, troopers said.

Tommy R. Potter, 71, a front-seat passenger in Darling’s vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. Darling and a juvenile rear-seat passenger sustained serious injuries and were transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center. Talbert also suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the same hospital.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, assisted by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, Rush Township Volunteer Fire Department, Scioto Squad 2, Portsmouth Ambulance, Scioto County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Department of Transportation, responded to the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
