CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Chillicothe Police Department released body camera footage Friday of an officer-involved shooting that occurred last month, showing a suspect pointing a long gun at an officer before the officer opened fire.

The incident took place around 1:00 a.m. on Aug. 27, in the 300 block of East Main Street. The video shows the officer yelling at the suspect, who was positioned around the side of a fence, before firing multiple shots. The officer then radios that he has been shot and immediately begins rendering aid to the suspect.

The officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was treated at Adena Regional Medical Center. The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was also taken to Adena Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Grant Hospital in Columbus with serious injuries. The condition of the suspect was not disclosed as of Friday.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation at the request of the Chillicothe Police Department. Authorities have not released the names of the officer or the suspect, and no further details were provided.
