COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost has announced a new upgrade to a key tool for Ohio law enforcement. The Ohio Law Enforcement Gateway (OHLEG), the state says, has been a longstanding investigative tool for fighting crime.
A.G. Yost said that a major upgrade to the 20-year-old system is happening, and it will allow law enforcement to use the new OHLEG SmartSearch application. Yost said in a press release that it will improve the speed and efficiency of investigations by streamlining dozens of law enforcement databases into a single, powerful search.
Yost said, “We met with chiefs, sheriffs, detectives, analysts, officers across Ohio. They told us that they needed a faster way to search, a smarter way to see data, and a way to stop running the same search a dozen different times. They needed a tool built for today.”
SmartSearch, officials said, eliminates the need for manual searches across multiple databases. The new upgrade reportedly gives users quick access to virtually any record within OHLEG — all in one place. The SmartSearch feature also introduces advanced mapping and data analytics capabilities to help agencies track and better understand criminal trends, patterns, and activity in their communities.
