CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A police officer stopped traffic on a city street after finding a toddler stumbling in the roadway, according to a report released by the Chillicothe Police Department.
The officer was patrolling on East Water Street on Dec. 20 when he saw a child believed to be 2 or 3 years old in the road and an older child attempting to pull the toddler to safety as vehicles approached. The officer blocked traffic and assisted the children. Moments later, an adult emerged from a nearby residence and told the officer he had been responsible for watching the children while their parents were at work. He said he had instructed the children to remain inside.
The parent of the children later arrived at the scene and told the officer he would remain home with them for the rest of the evening. The adult who had been supervising the children was issued a citation for child endangerment and given a court date, the report said.
No further details were released by police.
