WAVERLY, Ohio — Two people were killed Friday evening in a fiery crash at a southern Ohio intersection after a vehicle fleeing police ran a red light and struck another car, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The crash happened at around 7 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 23 and North Market Street in Waverly.
“A 2011 Ford Fusion, driven by 46-year-old Davina K. Arthur of Friendship, Ohio, was engaged in a pursuit with Chillicothe Police Department southbound on U.S. 23,” troopers from the Portsmouth Post said in a release. “Arthur continued south through Waverly, ran a red light and struck a 2025 Ford Escape driven by 63-year-old William K. Gildow of Waverly, who was westbound on North Market Street.”
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. Their bodies were transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for autopsies.
Troopers said a passenger in Arthur’s vehicle, 66-year-old Homer R. Bailey III of West Portsmouth, sustained injuries and was transported to Grant Hospital for treatment.
“The crash remains under investigation,” the Highway Patrol stated. No further details about the circumstances of the pursuit or contributing factors have been released.
