CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — Retired Captain and current Reserve Deputy Jon F. Rhoades, a longtime member of the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, died Sunday at his home of natural causes, authorities said. He was 61.

Rhoades began his law enforcement career with the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office under former Sheriff Dwight E. Radcliff, serving in the Corrections Division. He completed Ohio Basic Peace Officer Training in November 1989 and held several roles within the agency before resigning later that year to become a police officer with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

After nearly two years with the patrol, Rhoades transferred to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio, where he worked until retiring in 2017. Throughout his state service, he continued to volunteer as a Reserve Deputy in Pickaway County.

Following his retirement, Rhoades returned to the sheriff’s office in a full‑time capacity when Sheriff Robert B. Radcliff appointed him as a lieutenant overseeing the Communications Center. He was promoted to captain in March 2023 and retired from full‑time service in August of that year, remaining active in the Reserve Deputy Program.

Most recently, Rhoades was elected fiscal officer in Jackson Township.

Sheriff’s officials said Rhoades served Pickaway County and the state of Ohio for decades and will be deeply missed. Funeral arrangements will be announced when available.
