CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Newly released police reports provide additional detail about a dangerous overnight pursuit in Chillicothe that reached speeds near 90 mph and ended on North Bridge Street late Monday.
According to report PD‑P2600049, Chillicothe Police officers were requested to assist the Ross County Sheriff’s Office around 9:50 p.m. as deputies pursued a black Chevrolet Cruze eastbound on Western Avenue. Officers reported the driver, identified as Luke Matthew Marshall, 28, was traveling at high speed and driving recklessly as he entered the city.
Multiple Chillicothe officers attempted to deploy stop sticks at Western Avenue and Water Street. Officers reported that the Cruze appeared to strike the front driver ’s-side tire as it passed his position. The vehicle continued through downtown streets, weaving through alleys and briefly driving the wrong way on Clay Street, according to the report.
Officers continued the chase and moved north onto Bridge Street, where Marshall drove in the southbound lane before crossing back into the proper lane near East Main Street.
With speeds dropping to around 40 mph near the U.S. Route 35 overpass, officers requested and received authorization to perform a PIT maneuver (spin the vehicle out). The officer’s first attempt was unsuccessful, but a second attempt near North Plaza Boulevard caused the Cruze to partially spin out, allowing officers to box the vehicle in.
Marshall was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.
