CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The Ross County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly hit‑and‑run crash that occurred over the weekend, though officials have not yet released their report on the incident.
According to preliminary information reviewed by the Guardian, the crash happened around 8 p.m. Saturday on Denver Road near Mt. Tabor. Friends and relatives of the victim wrote on social media that the individual was standing in their yard when a vehicle struck them and fled the scene.
Those familiar with the situation said a larger truck is suspected, though the sheriff’s office has not confirmed that detail and has declined to release its report as of this reporting.
The victim has not been formally identified by law enforcement, but family members have launched a GoFundMe campaign for Josh Hopkins, who they say was the victim.
Family members also took to Facebook, asking the community for help locating the driver. One post reads, “Anyone who may have seen a vehicle likely a larger truck in the Dever Road/ Huntington Township area with body damage or if you say anything suspicious two nights ago my cousin was hit and killed in his yard on Denver Road near Mt. Tabor. I’m asking that you keep your eyes open and help us find this person.”
No official statement has been issued by investigators.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ross County Sheriff’s Office.
Editor’s Note: The story has been updated to include the GoFundMe for the victim’s family.
