INDEPENDENCE, Ohio — Twenty‑seven coworkers who routinely chip in for lottery tickets turned a small win into a major payout, claiming a $1 million Powerball prize from the December 20, 2025, drawing.

The group first played the December 17 drawing because of the soaring jackpot and won just $8. They rolled those winnings into a single $10 ticket for the next drawing — a decision that paid off in a big way.

One member of the group joked that it was probably for the best they didn’t hit the full $1.25 billion jackpot, saying the entire workplace might have called it quits.

The winning numbers for the December 20 drawing were 4‑5‑28‑52‑69 with Powerball 20. The group matched all five white balls to secure the $1 million prize. The odds of doing so are 1 in 11,688,054. They did not purchase the Power Play option.

After 26.75% in mandatory federal and state tax withholding, the coworkers will split $732,500.

The winning ticket was sold at Speedway #3671 at 103 East Avenue in Tallmadge.
