ATLANTA, Georgia — United Parcel Service said Wednesday it plans to cut 30,000 jobs in 2026 as part of a broader effort to reduce costs and improve profitability, following 48,000 job cuts in 2025.

The company also announced plans to close 24 facilities in the first half of 2026, with additional closures possible later in the year. UPS has increasingly deployed automation, closing 93 buildings and automating 57 facilities in 2025.

UPS is winding down its partnership with Amazon, cutting shipment volumes from the e-commerce giant by more than 50% last year. The company is shifting focus to higher-margin shipments as part of its operational turnaround.

UPS said it will offer a second voluntary separation program for full-time drivers as part of the restructuring. The company helped Amazon build its logistics network in the late 1990s but has seen its reliance decline as Amazon expanded its in-house delivery operations.

The changes are part of UPS’s ongoing strategy to reduce variable costs, increase efficiency, and modernize operations.
