PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — A 67-year-old Minford man has been arrested and charged with seven counts of rape after a Scioto County investigation involving a 6-year-old child, authorities said.
Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman said deputies were contacted on Wednesday, Jan. 28, after a mother reported that her child disclosed being sexually assaulted. A deputy responded and began an initial investigation, which was later turned over to detectives.
The child was taken to Adena Medical Center in Chillicothe for evaluation and treatment and was later released, the sheriff’s office said.
Detectives interviewed the suspect Thursday, Jan. 29, at the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office. Following that interview, Jeffrey Lee Gilliland, 67, of Minford, was arrested and charged with seven counts of rape, all first-degree felonies.
Gilliland is being held in the Scioto County Jail on a $700,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Friday, Jan. 30.
