ATHENS, Ohio — The Ohio University Police Department is investigating a potential terroristic threat made via social media against members of Turning Point USA during a campus event, according to police records and a public notice issued Tuesday.
The incident was reported on Monday, February 2, when members of the conservative student group told officers they had received anonymous threats — including one suggesting someone intended to shoot them — while hosting an event outside Baker Center. The threats were allegedly posted through an anonymous social media app, with additional vague messages also reported.
According to the report provided to the Guardian, police responded to the scene and gathered information for a report. The incident is being investigated as a terroristic threat, a third-degree felony.
University police emphasized that the threat emerged in response to the lawful exercise of constitutionally protected rights and said campus safety remains their highest priority.
The Guardian has reached out to Turning Point USA for comment. As of this reporting, we have yet to hear from a representative.
