PORTSMOUTH, Ohio — The Scioto County Grand Jury returned 19 public indictments during its January term, Scioto County Prosecutor Shane A. Tieman announced Wednesday.
The grand jury met Jan. 30 and handed down charges ranging from drug trafficking and weapons offenses to aggravated murder.
Among those indicted was John Wallington, 62, of Portsmouth, who faces six counts of trafficking in a fentanyl-related compound and six counts of possession of a fentanyl-related compound. He was also indicted on one count each of trafficking in cocaine and possession of cocaine, along with three counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs and three counts of aggravated possession of drugs.
Darius Harron, 33, of Portsmouth, and Kenneth Bailey, 36, of Neptune, New Jersey, were each indicted on one count of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, and two counts of obstructing justice.
Demetrius Smith, 29, of Hamilton, was indicted on charges including trafficking and possession of a fentanyl-related compound, trafficking and possession of cocaine, two counts of having weapons while under disability, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, possessing criminal tools, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, driving an unsafe vehicle, and driving under suspension.
Destine Short, 29, of Portsmouth, was indicted on charges including trafficking and possession of a fentanyl-related compound, trafficking and possession of cocaine, having weapons while under disability, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, possessing criminal tools, and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
Amanda Harr, 45, of Sciotoville, was indicted on two counts of aggravated trafficking in drugs and three counts of aggravated possession of drugs.
Other indictments include:
- John Mosley, 42, Portsmouth — aggravated trafficking in drugs, aggravated possession of drugs, and tampering with evidence.
- Casey Smalley, 36, Portsmouth — illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse onto the grounds of a specified governmental facility, tampering with evidence, and possession of drugs.
- Tiffany Allred, 33, Franklin Furnace — aggravated possession of drugs.
- Clarence Evans, 56, McDermott — aggravated possession of drugs and illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia.
- Holly Davis, 52, Chillicothe — aggravated possession of drugs.
- Denver Wheeler, 35, Wheelersburg — possession of cocaine.
- Danny Legg, 47, Franklin Furnace — grand theft of a motor vehicle.
- Matthew Owens, 37, Wheelersburg — theft.
- Jaeden Carter, 25, Newark — vandalism.
- Paul Riggs, 43, Portsmouth — failure to appear as required by recognizance.
- Blaze Osborne, 41, Lucasville — failure to appear as required by recognizance.
- Mark Cole, 44, Manchester — failure to appear as required by recognizance.
- William Swords, 26, West Portsmouth — failure to appear as required by recognizance.
An indictment is a formal accusation and does not constitute evidence of guilt. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
