WAVERLY, Ohio — The Village of Waverly has declared a mandatory water conservation emergency because of an ongoing leak tied to rapid temperature changes, according to a public notice distributed Monday.

The emergency will remain in effect until further notice, village officials said in the document titled “Mandatory Water Conservation Notice,” dated Feb. 16, 2026.

“The Village of Waverly water department has declared a mandatory water conservation emergency until further notice,” the notice states. “Due to an ongoing leak caused by rapid changes in weather temperatures, this conservation emergency is necessary to continue furnishing water to critical users and necessary services for our water system.”

Under the order, several water uses are prohibited, including watering indoor and outdoor plants, shrubs or gardens; washing paved surfaces such as streets, sidewalks, driveways, garages, parking areas and patios; operating water fountains, artificial waterfalls and reflecting pools; washing vehicles; serving water in dine-in restaurants unless specifically requested by the customer; and filling or topping off indoor swimming pools.

The notice also urges residents to reduce consumption by not leaving water running.

Village officials thanked residents for their cooperation and said the restrictions are intended to preserve water for critical users and essential services.
