WILMINGTON, Ohio – A round of showers and thunderstorms is on the way for Saturday, and some storms could turn strong to severe ahead of an approaching cold front.

The National Weather Service out of Wilmington is tracking a line of storms expected to move through the area during the morning and afternoon hours. Some storms could produce locally heavy rainfall and isolated damaging wind gusts — both of which carry consequences worth preparing for.

Damaging winds could bring down trees and powerlines, while repeated rounds of heavy rain could renew flooding concerns in areas that have already seen significant rainfall recently.

The Storm Prediction Center has placed portions of the region under a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk, meaning scattered severe storms are possible with the chance of longer-lived storms. Areas to the west are under a Level 1 marginal risk, where isolated strong to severe short-lived storms remain possible.

Residents should keep an eye on the forecast through Friday night and have a plan in place ahead of Saturday morning. Stay weather aware, charge your devices, and know where you’ll go if warnings are issued.

Additional updates will be posted as the storm system draws closer.
