PICKAWAY COUNTY, Ohio — A Teays Valley bus driver is being recognized for her vigilance after her quick thinking helped spark an investigation that led to an arrest involving a suspected online predator.
Pickaway County Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey presented a Letter of Commendation to bus driver Tabatha Carson on Monday evening, honoring her actions on February 13, 2026.
According to the sheriff’s office, Carson noticed a suspicious individual at one of her assigned bus stops. Trusting her instincts, she reported the situation to School Resource Officer Deputy Jared Duskey, prompting an immediate investigation.
Authorities say that the investigation revealed the individual had been communicating online with a juvenile, as well as another student in the Teays Valley area.
Working in coordination with federal authorities, including the FBI, investigators were able to identify the suspect. A search warrant was later executed at the suspect’s Indiana residence, resulting in an arrest the following week.
Officials credited Carson’s awareness and willingness to speak up as a key factor in preventing what could have become a dangerous situation.
During the recognition ceremony, Carson was presented with both a formal Letter of Commendation and a sheriff’s challenge coin.
Sheriff Hafey praised Carson’s actions, noting that her attentiveness reflects the importance of the “see something, say something” message.
Her actions, officials say, helped protect students and reinforce the safety of the school community.
