WILMINGTON, Ohio — Area rivers and streams remain swollen following a weekend of heavy rainfall, with the National Weather Service warning that the Scioto River will not crest in some portions of the region until after Tuesday.

The Scioto River at Circleville is expected to crest at just under 19 feet — in the minor flood stage — later today. The river at Piketon is expected to crest late Tuesday at just under 20 feet, also within the minor flood stage range.

Flash flooding was reported throughout the region Saturday and Sunday as heavy rains moved through the area.

Residents are reminded not to attempt to cross water-covered roadways. Officials warn that even a small amount of fast-moving water can push a vehicle off the road. The National Weather Service urges the public to turn around and not drive into flooded areas.
