CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The City of Circleville is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Worker I position in its Department of Public Service, with starting pay of up to $19.45 an hour for candidates who hold a commercial driver’s license.
The city said in a Facebook post that the position offers competitive pay, benefits and “opportunities for growth” as the department works to maintain city infrastructure.
Starting pay is $18.1764 an hour for applicants without a CDL and $19.4472 an hour for those who have one, according to the city. After six months on the job, pay rises to $19.9488 an hour without a CDL or $21.2866 an hour with one. The job carries a Monday-through-Friday schedule from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the city said benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance after 30 days on the job, along with paid vacation after a year of employment.
The Department of Public Service is responsible for maintaining Circleville’s streets, traffic lights and controllers, storm sewers and catch basins, along with the city’s buildings, according to the department. It is led by Director of Public Service James Stanley, with Chris Cupp serving as superintendent of the city’s transportation garage, which houses the maintenance crews who handle much of that day-to-day upkeep.
Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid Ohio driver’s license, and must be able to meet the city’s insurability guidelines. The position also requires the ability to obtain a Class B CDL with an air brake endorsement. Candidates must pass a background investigation, physical examination and drug screening, all paid for by the city.
The city said it prefers candidates with experience operating equipment and power tools, working outdoors in varying weather, and using trucks, tractors, loaders and mowers. The job may require lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally.
