PIKETON, Ohio — Pike Water Inc. issued a boil-water advisory Tuesday evening for a handful of homes and a church along State Route 772 near Dunn Road south of Piketon after a water leak, the utility said in a Facebook post.
The advisory covers three State Route 772 addresses — 6044, 6077 and 6238 — along with Cotties Corner Church on the same highway and two Dunn Road addresses, 28 and 30. The intersection sits in Sunfish Township, a rural stretch of Pike County a few miles from the village of Piketon, and is also home to Cotties Corner Cemetery.
Pike Water Inc. did not say Tuesday what caused the leak or when service would return to normal, saying only that the advisory would remain in effect until further notice. Boil-water advisories are typically issued after a drop in system pressure raises the risk of contamination, and health officials generally recommend bringing water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before using it to drink, cook or brush teeth until the advisory is lifted.
It is at least the second time this year Pike Water Inc. has issued a boil advisory tied to a leak along State Route 772. In April, the utility asked customers along a much longer stretch of the highway — plus Union Hill, Mouser, John Ward, Laurel Ridge, Carters Run and Alexander roads — to boil their water after a separate water-main break.
Pike Water Inc. is a nonprofit utility headquartered on Boswell Run Road in Piketon that supplies drinking water to residential and commercial customers across Pike, Ross, Jackson, Adams, Scioto and Highland counties, according to the utility. Faron Young serves as general manager.
