PIKETON, Ohio — Pike County families can pick up free school supplies, haircuts and lunch next month at a community back-to-school event, the Waverly Police Department said in a Facebook post promoting the gathering.
The event, billed as the “B2SB” Back to School Bash, is set for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Pike County Fairgrounds, according to a flyer the department shared on its page. Organizers describe it as “a day of fun, community and support” for local kids as they prepare to head back to class.
Every service at the event is free, organizers said, though children must be present to receive backpacks and school supplies. Along with haircuts and supplies, the bash will offer a free lunch, gently used clothing, Kona Ice shaved ice, a bouncy house and face painting.
A separate Facebook page set up for the event has been recruiting local businesses and organizations to staff information booths. Groups signed on so far include Integrated Services, AEP, Pike Scioto Valley Mental Health, Brandon Therapy & Co., CAC Headstart, CareSource, Reaching Out Ministries and author Danielle Gil, according to posts on the event’s page.
Organizers billed the event under the tagline “a stronger community, brighter futures” and said it is open to everyone.
