JACKSON, Ohio — A 17-year-old driver was seriously injured Saturday evening when a pickup truck left the roadway and struck a mailbox and a tree in Jackson County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 5:25 p.m. Saturday at Beaver Pike and Lake Katherine Road in Liberty Township, the patrol said.

A 2003 Ford Ranger driven by the Jackson juvenile was headed northwest on Beaver Pike when it ran off the right side of the road, struck a mailbox and then hit a tree, according to the patrol.

The teen was taken to Holzer Medical Center in Jackson before being transferred to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for treatment of serious injuries, the patrol said.

Bobst Towing was called to remove the truck, and Beaver Pike was closed for about 20 minutes during the recovery, according to the release.

Troopers from the patrol’s Jackson post were assisted at the scene by Jackson County EMS, Jackson Fire Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office. The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.

The information contained in this story was obtained from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
