LYNCHBURG, Ohio — Hoxworth Blood Center will hold a blood drive at Lynchburg Fire & Ambulance later this month, the fire department said in a social media post.
The drive is set for Monday, Sept. 28, with two donation windows, 12:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., at the station at 8123 State Route 135 in Lynchburg, according to the post. Every donor will receive a $10 e-gift card, and appointments are encouraged, though donors may also ask about giving platelets.
Donors can schedule an appointment online at hoxworth.org/groups/lynchburg, by calling Hoxworth at (513) 451-0910, or by scanning a QR code included in the department’s post. Hoxworth also recommends donors use its QuickPass system at hoxworth.org/quickpass on the day of their appointment to speed up the process.
Hoxworth Blood Center, based at the University of Cincinnati, traces its roots to 1938, when Cincinnati surgeon Dr. Paul I. Hoxworth founded the blood bank under the Cincinnati and Hamilton County Chapter of the American Red Cross. The Red Cross later turned the operation over to the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, and it was renamed in Hoxworth’s honor in 1973. It is now the oldest operating blood bank in the country, according to the university.
The center supplies blood to 31 hospitals across 18 counties in southwestern Ohio, northern Kentucky and southeastern Indiana, collecting more than 100,000 units annually from local donors, according to Hoxworth.
